Terra Metals ($TM1) Limited requested a voluntary trading halt on 12 October 2026 while preparing its response to an ASX price-query letter and an exploration-results announcement. The stated end point is the earlier of normal trading on Wednesday, 14 October, or release of the response and results, unless ASX decides otherwise. Halt notice and attached company request.

The notice does not cite a capital raising. It also gives us no basis to predict the new assays. At our 13 October check, the company’s announcement list still showed the halt without the promised response or exploration release. Company announcement feed.

We would give Terra’s Southwest discovery a constructive hearing. The reasons are in its published drilling, access clearances and financial statements. Investors do not need to guess what management is about to announce to find something worth examining.

What the halt actually tells us

ASX explains that it generally issues a price query when it detects abnormal trading. The query asks whether undisclosed information could explain that activity and whether the company is meeting its disclosure obligations. A query is a request for answers; it is not, by itself, a finding of a breach. ASX Guidance Note 8, section 8.3.

Terra’s request identifies both the price-query response and exploration results as the disclosures it intends to release. We cannot infer why the shares moved, whether the forthcoming results improve the project, or what ASX will conclude from the response. Our preference is to read both announcements together when they arrive.

Southwest has already supplied reasons to pay attention

In its 1 October release, Terra reported 336.9 metres at 1.02 grams per tonne of 3E, with 0.11% copper and 0.19% nickel, from 191.1 metres downhole in SWRD090. Here, 3E means platinum, palladium and gold combined. The company reports downhole lengths; true widths remain unestablished. Drilling release, Table 1 and JORC reporting table.

We find that broad interval encouraging. It gives geologists a substantial mineralised section to investigate rather than relying on a narrow peak assay. It does not establish a mineable thickness, an ore reserve or a profitable operation. Investors still need the geometry, grade distribution and processing behaviour to judge the result properly.

Terra also reported an interpreted mineralised strike of 1.35 kilometres, completed heritage clearance across the immediate Southwest drilling footprint, and more than 40,000 assays pending. The figures describe the programme at 1 October, rather than new results from this halt. Drilling and access release.

Access is a practical advance. The team can undertake the infill drilling needed to test continuity between existing holes. We would put more weight on repeatable mineralisation across that drilling than on another isolated high-grade sample. Exploration clearance also needs to be kept distinct from the approvals required to develop and operate a mine.

The pending laboratory work gives Terra a substantial stream of results to assess. A large assay backlog does not guarantee favourable grades, but it does mean the discovery is being tested through an extensive programme. The useful question is how those results change the geological interpretation.

The cash gives Terra room to do the work

Terra’s audited annual report records A$75.1 million of cash and equivalents at 30 June 2026. It reports A$7.2 million of total liabilities, including leases, and an A$85 million equity placement completed in tranches during March and May. The balances are dated; shareholders should not assume the June cash remains untouched today. Annual report, financial position and significant changes.

Our positive reading is that Terra entered the next phase with meaningful funding already raised, allowing management to pay for drilling and technical studies before those studies can establish a development case. The team has an opportunity to resolve several important questions without making each programme dependent on a fresh cheque.

Shareholders should still watch expenditure as the work expands. A funded explorer can spend money sensibly and remain an explorer. We would judge the return on that spending by what the team establishes about continuity, recoveries and development options, rather than by metres drilled alone.

The next milestone is an estimate, followed by economics

Terra now targets its first Southwest mineral resource estimate for the first quarter of calendar 2027, followed by a scoping study targeted for mid-2027. Southwest remains separate from Dante’s existing 148-million-tonne Basal Reefs resource in Western Australia’s West Musgrave. Neither scheduled milestone should be treated as already delivered. Annual report, chair’s letter and operating review.

The Q1 2027 target updates the late-2026 Southwest timing discussed in our September Terra review. An enlarged discovery deserves some flexibility in its first estimate, in our view, provided management explains the additional work and keeps shareholders informed. A later date still means more time and spending before investors can assess a formal resource.

Processing work is advancing alongside drilling. Terra said cleaner flotation trials began in late September, assessing bulk and separate concentrate options, with early smelter engagement. Recoveries and the distribution of metals between products are objectives of that testwork. 1 October release, metallurgical programme.

We would regard useful processing results as a particularly important advance. Shareholders ultimately need to know which products could be sold, how much metal can be recovered and what producing those products would cost. Having several metals in the rock creates possible sources of revenue; it also creates questions about how to recover and sell them.

The strongest objection to the positive case is straightforward: Southwest has yet to establish its first resource estimate or development economics. Cash cannot remove those geological and technical risks. Our view would strengthen with consistent infill results, a well-supported resource and processing evidence that makes the prospective products easier to evaluate.

For now, Terra has earned attention through work already disclosed. The sensible response to the halt is patience for the next announcement, with the published progress given its due.
